La inflación del mes de mayo del año 2008, medida por la variación del Índice de Precios al Consumidor (IPC), fue del -0,2%, inferior a la tasa del 0,5% observada en el mismo mes del año anterior. Con este resultado, la inflación acumulada en el año asciende al 4,2%, ubicándose por encima del -0,8% registrado en el mismo período durante el año anterior. Por otro lado, la inflación interanual fue del 11,3%, por debajo del 12,1% verificado en abril del 2008, pero superior al 7,1% registrado en mayo del año pasado.
Por su parte, la inflación subyacente -aquella que excluye los rubros volátiles de la canasta- se ubicó en un nivel mayor al de la inflación total mensual (en 0,8%). Así, la inflación interanual al mes de mayo de 2008, medido por este indicador, ascendió al 12,6%, por encima del 11,9% verificado en el mes de abril de 2008, y también mayor al 3,3% observado en el mes de mayo del año anterior.
Abstract
Inflation for May 2008, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was -0.2%, lower than the 0.5% rate observed in the same month last year. With this result, cumulative inflation for the year reached 4.2%, above the -0.8% recorded in the same period last year. Meanwhile, year-on-year inflation was 11.3%, below the 12.1% recorded in April 2008, but higher than the 7.1% recorded in May of last year.
Core inflation—which excludes volatile items—was higher than total monthly inflation (0.8%). Thus, year-on-year inflation in May 2008, as measured by this indicator, rose to 12.6%, higher than the 11.9% recorded in April 2008 and also higher than the 3.3% recorded in May of the previous year.
