Summary
La inflación del mes de agosto del año 2008, medida por la variación del Índice de Precios al Consumidor (IPC), fue del 0,6%, inferior a la tasa del 3,4% observada en el mismo mes del año anterior. Con este resultado, la inflación acumulada en el año asciende al 6,5%, ubicándose por encima del 2,3% registrado en el mismo período durante el año anterior.
Por otro lado, la inflación interanual fue del 10,4%, inferior al 13,4% verificado en julio del 2008, y también levemente inferior al 10,9% registrado en agosto del año 2007. Por su parte, la inflación subyacente -aquella que excluye los rubros volátiles de la canasta- se ubicó en un nivel superior al de la inflación total mensual (en 0,8%). Así, la inflación interanual al mes de agosto de 2008, medido por este indicador, ascendió al 11,6%, inferior al 12,8% verificado en el mes de julio de 2008, pero mayor al 5,1% observado en el mes de agosto del año anterior.
Abstract
Inflation in August 2008, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 0.6%, lower than the 3.4% rate observed in the same month last year. With this result, cumulative inflation for the year reached 6.5%, above the 2.3% recorded in the same period last year. Meanwhile, year-on-year inflation was 10.4%, lower than the 13.4% recorded in July 2008 and also slightly lower than the 10.9% recorded in August 2007. Core inflation—which excludes volatile items—was higher than total monthly inflation (0.8%). Thus, year-on-year inflation in August 2008, as measured by this indicator, rose to 11.6%, lower than the 12.8% recorded in July 2008, but higher than the 5.1% recorded in August of the previous year.
